A man in Wales has been jailed for raping a woman after she refused to have sex with him, South Wales Police has reported. Dominik Szymanski, 47, from Swansea, punched, kicked and dragged the victim at his flat on Matthew Street on September 2, 2025. He had met the victim for the first time on the day of the assault.
The court heard that the day after the victim gave evidence and was cross-examined, she was found dead. An inquest is yet to establish a cause of death. Szymanski was found guilty of rape, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and theft in May. He has now been sentenced to 16 years in prison and will be on the sex offenders register for life.

Szymanski initially denied rape and assault, claiming no sexual activity could have taken place as he was incapable of maintaining an erection, reports Wales Online.

He kept his victim's dog and arranged to sell it in the days after the attack. However, the woman was eventually reunited with her pet.
In a statement read to the court by the victim's mother, it was heard that her daughter was an animal lover who was devoted to her dog.
The mother said her daughter looked "broken" and "in a state of despair" after the rape and theft of her beloved companion, and said it was only after the safe return of the dog that her daughter began thinking about herself and what had happened to her.
The mum said her daughter had worked hard to tackle her addiction issues and that she dreamt of travelling to distant places and had drawn up a bucket list of things she wanted to do in life.
The mother said, regardless of what any court may find, she believed that the actions of Szymanski led her daughter to return to drugs and to her death.
She said: "In my eyes, his actions killed my child".
Judge Geraint Walters described the case as "disturbing", adding that Szymanski had seen the woman as a "vulnerable individual who he could take advantage of", and that he had set his mind to having sex with her.
The judge said that despite her difficulties over the years with drinking and drugs, he found the complainant to be a "most compelling and honest witness".
Detective Constable Claire Davies said his victim had "little means of defending herself".
She added: "This was a prolonged and significant attack enacted by a truly despicable offender against a vulnerable woman who had little means of defending herself.
"This sentence sends a hugely positive message to victims of sexual abuse that they will be believed, their attackers will be identified, and they will be brought to justice.
"Despite the victim no longer being able to see that justice has been done for her in court, this result is of great relief to her family and friends; they have seen Dominik Szymanski being held accountable for his actions and duly punished."

FSU Football Opens as Massive Underdog to Alabama in Week 3
The Seminoles are more than a two-touchdown underdog to the Alabama Crimson Tide this upcoming season. Tommy Mire|
In this story:
Florida State SeminolesAlabama Crimson TideLast season, the Florida State Seminoles rocked the country after toppling the Alabama Crimson Tide 31-17, entering the game as heavy underdogs at home to kick off the home-and-home series between the two programs.
FSU is no stranger to having the odds stacked against it over the past 10 years, and their road matchup against Alabama this season is no different.
Alabama Favored by More Than Two Touchdowns

Florida State entered the matchup in 2025 at a near two-touchdown disadvantage, and the stakes have gotten higher this time around. Per DraftKings SportsBook, Alabama is currently favored by 15.5 points.
The last time the two teams met, Florida State quarterback Tommy Castellanos led the Seminoles with 152 passing yards and 78 rushing yards with a touchdown, snapping the Crimson Tide's 23-game win streak in season openers.
Florida State's defense held Alabama's rushing attack to under 100 yards while FSU punished the ground game with 230 yards, averaging 4.7 yards per carry, with touchdown runs from Caziah Holmes, Micahi Danzy, Gavin Sawchuk, and Castellanos.
A Massive Early Test Awaits the Seminoles

Florida State will have an opportunity to build momentum before traveling to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, opening the season against New Mexico State before hosting SMU in its ACC opener.
While the 'Noles are heavily favored against New Mexico State, they are slight underdogs against the Mustangs at 2.5 points.
Even if the Seminoles enter Week 3 undefeated, they'll still face one of the toughest environments in college football against a national title contender.
The matchup could serve as an early measuring stick for Florida State head coach Mike Norvell's rebuilt roster, and an upset over Alabama would immediately reshape the national conversation surrounding the program after two consecutive losing seasons.
Florida State failing to win a road game over the last two years only adds more weight to the matchup. The last time FSU won a road test was at Ben Hill Griffen Stadium against the Florida Gators during their 2023 ACC Championship run.
The Seminoles aren't just trying to win games in 2026; they're trying to change the program's perception.
A win against Alabama would instantly change how the rest of the country views Norvell's team and flip the discussion from whether Florida State can return to eligibility to whether it can end the season as an ACC contender.
Game odds refresh periodically and are subject to change.

3 Chargers Fighting for Their Next Contract Who Should Have Monster Seasons
3 Chargers Fighting for Their Next Contract Who Should Have Monster Seasons
Chargers stars with contract extensions up for grabs could have huge campaigns in 2026. Chris Roling|
In this story:
Los Angeles ChargersThe Los Angeles Chargers generally do a pretty good job of staying out in front of the next big contracts they want to do.
Good examples this offseason aren’t hard to find. General manager Joe Hortiz and the front office got the Derwin James extension done early. They didn’t, however, do early deals with names like Zion Johnson and Odafe Oweh, two guys who wound up leaving in free agency on pretty big deals with other teams.
Looking ahead to July work and beyond, a few major names stick out as contract extension candidates who could have big seasons.
Tuli Tuipulotu
Will the Chargers get the Tuli Tuipulotu contract extension done during training camp? Or will it drag out into the regular season and next offseason?
One would think the Chargers would wrap it up as soon as possible. Tuipulotu is just 23 years old and a second-round investment with 26 sacks over 50 games, including a career-high 13 last year. He’s the foundational building block for the unit once Khalil Mack retires.
But Tuipulotu and his reps could be content to wait and see what the market looks like. They would likely be correct to think he’s headed for another monster season despite the coordinator change to Chris O’Leary, since the theme is consistency anyway.
It’s not like the Chargers are, or will be hurting for cap space, anyway, but peace of mind in having this done would be nice.

WR Quentin Johnston
Don’t laugh.
Quentin Johnston hasn’t lived up to his first-round billing, no doubt. Some of that has been self-inflicted wounds like drop issues.
But if fans complained about archaic-feeling offenses like the one Greg Roman rolled out on a weekly basis for other players, Johnston probably deserves the same bit of grace.
Now, Johnston gets at least one chance to prove what he can do in a modern Mike McDaniel offense. That’s exciting, considering the new coordinator shouldn't have any problems drawing up big yards-after-catch chances for Johnston on short work, which is where he seems to excel.
Keep in mind, too, Johnston is still just 24 years old and has scored eight touchdowns in each of his last two seasons. Don’t sleep on McDaniel walking in the door at the perfect time to match Johnston’s developmental upswing.
Bonus: Donte Jackson
Maybe don’t sleep on veteran cornerback Donte Jackson. He came over last year in free agency and immediately dropped a 71.9 Pro Football Focus grade, ranked 24th out of 114 at his position. Jackson will be 31 in November, but if he has another strong season at a premium position, the Chargers might be willing to throw him big numbers, even if it’s on a year-to-year basis like they do with Mack.
