As Jalen Duren negotiations continue, Pistons risk losing Tobias Harris: Sources

By Sam AmickJune 30, 2026 Updated 6:57 pm EDTThe Detroit Pistons, in the wake of a 60-win regular season and second-round loss to Cleveland in the playoffs, might be the most interesting team in the Association at the moment. As free agency officially begins, they find themselves waiting for clarity from two of their most important players last season: Frontcourt mates Jalen Duren and Tobias Harris.
Duren, as The Athletic has reported, is a restricted free agent who is taking meetings with the Los Angeles Lakers and Sacramento Kings Tuesday with the hopes of finding a sign-and-trade pathway out of town. The gap in negotiations between Duren and the Pistons sparked this strategy, but it remains possible the two sides eventually strike a deal — especially considering the signals sent by the Pistons. Detroit does not have interest in the Kings’ scenario, which would send three-time All-Star Domantas Sabonis their way as a replacement for Duren, according to league sources who spoke on condition of anonymity to describe ongoing deliberations.
The Lakers could either give Duren an offer sheet (that the Pistons could match) or try to compel Detroit to cooperate in a sign-and-trade structure in which the third-team All-NBA center would go into the their salary cap space. But it will be challenging for LA to actually land him given the Pistons’ ability to control the situation, either by matching the offer sheet or refusing to engage on the sign-and-trade.
Which brings us back to Harris.
The 33-year-old unrestricted free agent was the Pistons’ second-most productive player in the playoffs (behind Cade Cunningham), averaging 18.1 points and 7.2 rebounds. Yet Harris will be visiting with five teams at the start of free agency, according to a league source who spoke on condition of anonymity to describe ongoing negotiations. (It’s not clear whether the meetings are virtual, phone or in person, or which teams are in play). At minimum, that means the prospect of Detroit losing Harris is somewhat real.
In turn, the Pistons suddenly find themselves somewhat in danger of taking a step backward this summer.
There is still a long way to go in this offseason, of course, but this is not ideal for a Pistons team that is widely known to be on the lookout for significant upgrades. The focus at the start of free agency, it seems, is on not losing the pivotal players it already had in-house.

Tue, June 30, 2026 at 3:30 PM PDTTeddy Ricketson2023 Commissioner's Cup Championship Rematch
The Liberty and the Aces have seen plenty of each other in recent years. While they met in the 2023 WNBA Finals, the two franchises also met in that year's WNBA Commissioner's Cup Championship.
The Commissioner's Cup has undergone some tweaks in recent years, and the 2023 iteration was held in mid-August, about a month before the end of the regular season.
New York was down 34-32 at halftime, but then dominated the second half. The Liberty won the game 82-63.
Jonquel Jones was named the MVP of the game, thanks to her double-double of 16 points and 15 rebounds.
One of the Aces' biggest problems in that game was that they were unable to lock in from long range. Las Vegas finished just 19% from beyond the arc.
Tue, June 30, 2026 at 3:15 PM PDTTeddy RicketsonLiberty have lost 4 of their last 5
The New York Liberty are hoping that a 2026 WNBA Commissioner’s Cup Championship against a Wilson-less Aces could be coming at the perfect time to get off the skid they have been on.
The Liberty are 12-8 on the year, but have gone 1-4 over their last five games. While this game against Vegas doesn’t count toward their official record, New York, after dropping consecutive games, could use a boost heading into the second half of the season.
Tue, June 30, 2026 at 3:00 PM PDTTeddy RicketsonWill Aces be able to make up for Wilson's absence?
Las Vegas will be behind the 8-ball trying to contend without their perennial MVP candidate on Tuesday night.
Wilson injured her lower leg in Sunday’s win over the Chicago Sky. She finished the game with 30 points and 15 boards, but had left the game briefly to get checked out in the locker room after rolling her ankle.
The center returned to the game, offering hope that the injury was minor. Still, whether adrenaline faded or out of caution, Wilson will miss Tuesday’s game and the Aces will have to try to make up for her team-leading 25.7 points, 9.4 rebounds, 1.6 steals and 2.0 blocks per game.
Wilson has played in all 19 games for Las Vegas this season. She has led the team in either points or rebounds in all but three.
