Michigan Football Lands Two Newcomers on CBS Sports' Big Ten Freshmen to Watch List
As preseason expectations continue to build, Michigan placed two newcomers on CBS Sports' list of the Big Ten's top freshmen to watch.Justice Steiner|
In this story:
Michigan WolverinesWith the calendar nearly ready to flip to July, we are slowly creeping in on the start of another college football season. With that, college football fans will get to see a new batch of student-athletes, whether that be freshmen or transfers, take the field for their favorite schools.
Yesterday (June 29), Brad Crawford of CBS Sports released his list of Big Ten freshmen to watch out for in 2026. The list is based on conversations with people around the conference.
Michigan had two players show up on the list, which featured 11 Big Ten football freshmen.
Here is who is expected to have an immediate impact on the field in Ann Arbor in 2026.
Titan Davis (DL)
A four-star recruit out of St. Louis, Mo., Davis committed to Michigan last summer (June 23). Davis was highly recruited out of high school and chose the Wolverines over SEC powerhouse Alabama.
Michigan lost a lot of talent at the linebacker and EDGE positions, as well as defensive lineman Tre Williams, who had 20 tackles last season.
Trey Pierce and Enow Etta are the top two returners at his position.
Last season, Pierce accumulated 30 tackles, while Etta had 15 tackles and seven QB hurries (led the team).
What Crawford Said
“Michigan's defense under Kyle Whittingham is built on versatility, physicality and players who can diagnose quickly before attacking downhill. That's exactly why this freshman interior defensive lineman is such a natural fit. One of the most instinctive bullies in this 2026 class for the Wolverines, Davis has the frame, athleticism and football IQ to contribute earlier than most freshmen, especially from a rotational sense.”
“However, being a summer enrollee may alter that timeline a bit. The Wolverines won't need him to be a star immediately, but his blend of toughness and athletic upside could earn him meaningful snaps in Year 1 playing behind Trey Pierce and Enow Etta inside.“
Savion Hiter (RB)
Likely the most anticipated recruit of the 2026 class, expect Hiter to see the field quickly as a true freshman.

Per 247Sports, Hiter was ranked the second-best running back in his class. The Mineral, Va. native was also the second-ranked recruit in Virginia and the 21st-ranked recruit overall nationally.
Hiter committed to the Wolverines on August 19 over Tennessee, Ohio State and Georgia.
Although Jordan Marshall is likely to be the main back for the Wolverines in 2026, it doesn’t mean multiple players can’t find success.
The one-two punch of Marshall and Hiter could be similar to what we saw a season ago, where both Justice Haynes and Marshall found success on the ground.
What Crawford Said
“Ask anyone close to the Wolverines' football program and one name tends to surface before others as an immediate impact player based on early on-field returns,” Crawford said. “Hiter is exactly who Michigan expected him to be after stepping on campus as the 2026 recruiting cycle's second-highest-rated ball carrier nationally.”
“He's a ball of muscle at 6-foot, 210 pounds and already shows a willingness in pass protection not often seen from first-year players. Hiter has played himself into the two-deep as a combo punch of sorts with Jordan Marshall in the backfield.”
Final Thoughts
It is hard to predict who is going to step up before the season begins. However, Michigan fans should expect to see both Hiter and Davis make their mark in some capacity in their first seasons on campus.

Stearns, who’s signed his fair share struggling players with hopes of the Mets turning them around, signed utility player Christopher Morel to a minor-league deal Tuesday, The Post’s Jon Heyman confirmed.

Try it freeThe deal contains multiple opt-outs, and Morel will report to Triple-A Syracuse.
Morel, who turned 27 last week, was recently designated for assignment by the Marlins and hasn’t replicated the success he found with the Cubs early in his career.
While he still hit below .250 with the Cubs, he smashed 42 combined home runs and had 117 RBI from 2022-23.
Despite inconsistencies, he was seen as an up-and-coming piece for a then-rebuilding Cubs team.
But the start of 2024 was a disaster for Morel, as he hit just .199 despite having 18 homers.

The Cubs then traded Morel to the Rays when they acquired Isaac Paredes, but Morel still couldn’t find his footing in over a year with the Rays.
Morel’s power output decreased compared to his stint with the Cubs, and he hit just .219 in 2025 before being designated for assignment after the season.

Mets’ defensive woes hit another low with George Springer’s Little League home run
After becoming a free agent, Morel signed a one-year, $2 million deal with the Marlins and played in 22 games for the team following an oblique injury.
He hit just .162 with one homer during his Marlins stint and was released June 26.

With opt-outs in his Mets contract, it appears Morel will likely be up in the major leagues soon or he’ll become a free agent again.
Morel has experience playing both infield and outfield throughout his career, but given that the Mets outfield is one of their lone bright spots currently, him playing in the infield seems more likely.
The Mets have lost nine of their last 10 games and are 35-50 as their season continues to unravel.

Plus-size UN Special Rapporteur for HEALTH leaves role
A South African doctor who served as the United Nations' Special Rapporteur on the Right to Health left her role after a tenure riddled with controversy.
Dr Tlaleng Mofokeng was appointed by the UN Human Rights Council in July 2020 and completed the maximum term of six years in the role.
On June 17, Mofokeng delivered her final report and called on countries to adopt 'anti-racist' and 'anti-colonial' health policies.
'The failure of states to adopt an anti-racist, anti-colonial, and dignity-based approaches through extractive capitalistic practices, pillaging of resources, coloniality, genocides, and then crushes people under the weight of indignity. Health cannot be realized without dignity,' she said.
After receiving heaping praise, Mofokeng was confronted by UN Watch executive director Hillel Neuer over her many controversial remarks.
Neuer called out Mofokeng for publishing an article in Teen Vogue titled 'Why Sex Work Is Real Work.'
In the article, she wrote that 'some people may have fantasies and kink preferences that they are able to fulfill with the services of a sex worker,' and 'in some ways, aren’t we all [sex workers]?'
'Given the widespread exploitation, trafficking, and abuse in the prostitution industry, do you still stand by those remarks?' Neuer asked.

In one post on X included in the report, Mofokeng wrote, 'From the river to the sea Palestine will be free.'
Mofokeng defended Hamas in another post, writing, 'Armed struggle against colonization is not terrorism.'
In a third post, she wrote, 'That Hamas are not terrorists is fact.'
While the UN does not consider Hamas a terrorist organization, many countries, including the United States and the European Union, do.
After Neuer confronted Mofokeng, she responded, 'And in the face of fierce, personal, targeted attacks, incitement of violence against me, escalating into domestic spaces as professional harassment and intimidation, both in real life and in online spaces, I stand here today with very few answers to the grand scale of human suffering.'
Mofokeng's remarks received praise from the Palestinian Delegation, the Arab Group, Planned Parenthood, Amnesty International and other groups.
'We also commend your courage in documenting genocidal acts perpetrated in Gaza,' the Planned Parenthood representative said.
Mofokeng was appointed by the UN Human Rights Council in July 2020 and completed the maximum term of six years in the role this year
The Amnesty International delegate added, 'We commend the Special Rapporteur for calling for the decriminalization of abortion and sex work.
'She has recognized Israel’s genocide. We call on this Council and its Special Rapporteurs to build progressively on Dr. Mofokeng’s considerable legacy of body of work.'
The Daily Mail contacted Mofokeng and the United Nations for comment.
