Houston AstrosThe Houston Astros announced on Tuesday the placement of Jeremy Peña on the 10-day injured list with a left calf strain. Infielder Raynel Delgado was recalled from Triple-A Sugar Land to fill his roster spot.
Peña has been one of Houston’s better hitters this season. He’s been batting .295 with six home runs, 21 RBI and a .799 OPS across the 48 games he’s been in.
His absence on the field is leaving a hole in the middle they will need to work out as they are trying to chase down an American League Wild Card spot. Sitting 42-45, they have gained some ground recently, so they can’t let the momentum stop.
The severity of the strain hasn’t been immediately released, but a 10-day Injured list placement is usually precautionary and hopefully amounts to just some rest time. Peña was out of Monday’s lineup with Nick Allen starting at shortstop. That was the early sign of a roster change.
This is the latest blow to the Astros’ infield in a long list of injuries. Carlos Correa underwent ankle surgery in May and won’t see the field again for the entirety of the 2026 season. Braden Shewmake is still rehabbing a right adductor strain and has been out since late May.
Now losing Peña is just making this team thinner than it already should be, looking at a tough schedule ahead.
Delgado Gets the Call
After debuting on June 14, Delgado is getting another chance. The Cuban-born infielder has hit .280 with one home run, four RBI, and a .708 OPS in his 13 games thus far.
He delivered a home run on June 28 against the Detroit Tigers when he went 1-for-4 with two RBI. He was then optioned to Sugar Land on June 29, only to be brought right back on June 30.
Delgado brings defensive versatility with him. He’s played second, third and even shortstop in his brief MLB time. Joe Espada has to love that flexibility with all of the maneuvering he has had to do in response to injuries.
As a 2018 sixth-round pick originally drafted by Cleveland, Delgado has spent years in development and now possibly has found his way to the MLB field.
Houston will continue its homestand Monday evening as they take the field again against the Minnesota Twins at Daikin Park. After losing game one 4-5, the Astros are looking to regain their winning ways.
They will have to find a way to win without Peña for a while.

Mexico is on a mission to win its first World Cup knockout clash since 1986, but a stout and highly-motivated Ecuador stands in its way in the round of 32.
The two sides met less than a year ago and settled for a 1–1 draw in an international friendly that perfectly evidenced how even the pair of defensive-minded sides are. The stakes are considerably higher now, but expect a very similar game that's decided by thin margins.
Mexico delivered a sensational group stage, winning all three matches without conceding a single goal. El Tri has galvanized an entire nation, and at the Estadio Azteca, Javier Aguirre’s men will be eager to continue delivering what’s been a dream World Cup campaign so far.
Ecuador is coming off the biggest win in national team history, overcoming Germany to qualify for the knockout rounds. La Tri enters the game on a high, believing it has what it takes to perform at a hostile environment to upset Mexico.
Tuesday night’s game isn’t expected to be a goal-fest, but it has all the makings of an intense nail-biter that could go either way.

Fox Network has the rights to every World Cup game in the U.S., and fuboTV is another way to access the channel. Those in the U.S. that want to enjoy the Spanish coverage can do so on Telemundo and UNIVERSO.

The 2026 World Cup will come to an end for either Mexico or Ecuador on Tuesday night. The winner of the clash, though, will move on to the round of 16, where another potentially stellar contest awaits.
The victor of Mexico vs. Ecuador will stay put in Mexico City and play its round of 16 clash at the Estadio Azteca on Sunday.
Whoever advances will face the winner of the round of 32 clash between England and DR Congo.

Ahead of the start of NBA free agency on Tuesday, James’ agent Rich Paul of Klutch Sports reached out to the Lakers brass and informed the team that his client is moving on after eight seasons in Los Angeles.
With James leaving the Lakers, the Luka Doncic era for the storied franchise has officially begun.

Now, the two superstars are on separate paths, with James looking to finish his legendary basketball playing career elsewhere, likely with the Golden State Warriors or Cleveland Cavaliers, and Doncic looking to put his imprint on the iconic Lakers franchise.

Back in 2018, Lakers legend Magic Johnson was running the front office alongside Pelinka, with the team’s top target in free agency being James, who was ready to leave the Cavs.
Ultimately, Johnson convinced James to sign with the Lakers, which began a new era of basketball in the post-Kobe Bryant era.
James ended up joining forces with fellow superstar Anthony Davis and went on to win an NBA title in 2020.
Lakers on the Clock to Build Around Luka Doncic
With James moving on, the revamped Lakers' front office will focus on building around Doncic for the foreseeable future. The team has already agreed to terms on a lucrative long-term deal with Austin Reaves, which was the top priority heading into the NBA offseason.
However, the real challenge begins now, even though the Lakers have the most cap space in the league at $52 million. It will be no easy task for longtime general manager Rob Pelinka to bring in talent, with limited options in free agency, outside of rising stars in restricted free agency in Walker Kessler, Jalen Duren and Peyton Watson.
