Frank Lloyd Wright’s Only Tennessee House Hits the Market—for the First Time Ever—at $1.6 Million

Frank Lloyd Wright’s Seamour and Gerte Shavin House has been listed for the first time in its 74 years.Photo: Bettmann/Contributor/Getty ImagesIn 1952, Frank Lloyd Wright completed his only work in the state of Tennessee: the Seamour and Gerte Shavin House. The Usonian home was crafted from local sandstone and cypress and is still owned by the Shavin family—but not for long. With a price tag of $1.6 million, the Chattanooga residence has hit the market for the first time in its 74-year history. The family reportedly paid $33,000 for the dwelling and its furnishings when they commissioned it in 1949.
A Once Lost Frank Lloyd Wright Design Is Brought Back to LifeVisitors can now step into the architect’s former field office just as it would have been in the 1950sThe Shavin House, which offers three bedrooms and four bathrooms across approximately 1,800 square feet, employs the typical trappings of Wright’s Usonian period: a cantilevered roof, clerestory windows, mitered glass corners, and a hidden entrance. Situated on a mountainside, the single-story house overlooks the Tennessee River. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1993. Two years later, it became the city’s first—and only—official landmark.
A dramatic stone hearth warms the combined living and dining space, which is lined with built-in seating. Windows throughout provide panoramic views of the surrounding valley. A wood-paneled office hosts a built-in corner desk and a sliding glass door that leads to a paved terrace. Outside, a carport and a stone pond jutting from one side of the dwelling round out the plot, which measures in at just under an acre.
Seamour Shavin, who also stepped in as general contractor during the home’s construction, lived there until his 2005 death. “He used to tell me that the house was like a child to him, and I often would joke and say, ‘Which did you love better, me or the house?’” Seamour’s daughter, Karen Shavin, said of her father. “He never answered.” Gerte Shavin still lived at the home part-time until she passed away in 2020. “My mother used to always say that you really can’t appreciate this house unless you spent time there,” Karen said. “Every time I’m there, I find something new that is beautiful.”

Add The New York Post on GoogleHeartbreaking photos emerged Tuesday of the Florida woman fatally mauled by an alligator while hiking with her boyfriend over the weekend.
Brittany Clark, 31, was seen smiling in a sleek red slip dress just months before Sunday’s trip turned tragic when the couple went for a swim in the Econlockhatchee River at Little Big Econ State Forest.
A giant, 12-foot gator lunged from water and clenched its jaws onto Clark as she was in just three feet of water, ripping one arm “completely off.” according to officials.

“They were hiking and they just stopped to swim,” Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokesperson Chad Weber told reporters at a press conference on Monday.
“She was bitten on both of her arms. The boyfriend was the one that made the phone call. He was trying to get her from the alligator’s mouth, and on the way to the hospital she did pass away from her injuries.”

Her boyfriend, identified by the Daily Mail as Chance Allison, desperately tried to fight off the beast.
Allison heroically freed her arm, but the alligator instantly clamped onto her other arm.
Frantic 911 audio captured Allison trying to stem catastrophic blood loss on the shore, her boyfriend screaming that both her arms had been severed.

A woman described Clark’s injuries as “horrible,” adding that “one of her arms is completely off and the other one is like attached barely.”
“Bad, real bad please, hurry… she’s losing a lot of blood… we need to stop the blood,” said a distressed man on the 911 call.
Wildlife officials have since euthanized and decapitated the alligator, keeping its head as evidence.

Clark appeared to love the outdoors as her social media profiles were full of photos showing one adventure after another.
The country girl with a creative fashion taste apparently worked as a dozer operator for years, and enjoyed going to raves outside of her professional life.
“Physically I’m at work headbanging in my dozer, but mentally I never left tinker field,” Clark wrote in an Instagram post, which shows her adorned in vibrant clothing.
Clark was passionate about her pets and was also an avid firearm enthusiast and motorcyclist, frequently showing photos of rifles, pistols and her motorcycle on her Instagram.

Ukraine slams Moscow with another massive drone assault: ‘Step by step, we are implementing our plan’
By Ronny Reyes Published June 30, 2026, 6:33 p.m. ETSee more of our coverage in your search results.
Add The New York Post on GoogleUkraine hit Moscow with a large-scale drone attack overnight, striking one of the Russian capital’s largest satellite communication centers for the second time in a week, officials said.
Kyiv fired more than 60 drones at Moscow late Monday as part of a large wave of attacks over the border that saw Russia scramble to take out 419 drones across 18 regions.
The attack struck Moscow’s Dubna communication center, which sits 310 miles past the border, for yet another time.

3
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the center served as a “reconnaissance and for coordinating the activity of Russia’s occupation contingent in Ukraine.
“Recently, our Defense Forces of Ukraine already reached four such Russian centers, not only in the Moscow region but also in the Vladimir region,” Zelensky wrote on X.

At least 2 dead after Ukraine drone assault sets fire to major oil refinery in Russia: report
“Step by step, we are implementing our plan of long-range sanctions and making it as difficult as possible for the aggressor state to carry out its invasion operations against Ukraine and the occupation of our territories.”
Ukraine has ramped up its pressure campaign against the Kremlin this year, with drone attacks in Moscow becoming more and more common and spurring discontent among Russians over dictator Vladimir Putin’s war.
3
The strikes have been heavily focused on Russia’s oil and energy infrastructure, with Putin forced to admit Monday that the country was facing fuel shortages because of his war against Ukraine.
The intense strikes have reportedly begun to whittle away part of Moscow’s defenses, with the Ukrainian military attributing a hole in the “enemy’s air defense system” for successful strikes on the capital and St. Petersburg.
The Kremlin slammed the latest attacks on Moscow, telling reporters that the drone assault led to the deaths of civilians, including children.
Moscow regional official Andrey Vorobyov said a 6-month-old baby was killed Tuesday when a drone crashed into a home southeast of the capital.
