Father, 38, loses part of his LEG while saving daughter, 2, from car
A heroic father lost part of his leg while saving his young daughter from a speeding truck barreling down a busy Los Angeles street.
Jordan Stannard, 38, was putting his two-year-old daughter Sadie into the car after shopping at the Erewhon grocery store on Venice Boulevard when the truck came rushing down the street last month.
His wife and their six-week-old daughter were on the other side of the family car when they heard the truck strike another vehicle.
Stannard threw Sadie into the vehicle and took the full impact of the truck, which mangled his foot.
'I literally just threw her into the car. I remember the truck fully hitting my body and hitting me and twisting me around,' Stannard told KABC.
'It looked like I stepped on a bomb. It looked like I had stepped on a grenade or a bomb, and it looked like my foot was pretty much blown off.'
Doctors had to amputate his left leg below the knee, and the father who has previously run marathons and completed Ironman challenges has been recovering in the hospital since.
'If you told me, "You just have to trade your foot to be with your daughters for the rest of your life," that's a trade that I would make all day long,' Stannard said.

The father is grateful that his daughter was not hurt, and he said his wife has been his rock throughout his recovery.
'That is the thing that I am most thankful for. As I get further away from the accident, I'm just more and more thankful for that, because I can't even begin the thought of what could have happened to her,' Stannard said.

Awful reason girl, 19, died during boat trip to 'Sex Rock': Grieving sister reveals final moments

'I have the best wife in the world, and she has just really shown up for me, and she is the engine that drives our family. She is the reason why I'm able to have so much strength.'
Stannard expects to be released from the hospital on Saturday, and said he hopes to run the LA marathon next year after getting a prosthetic foot.
'There's no room to be like, "Boo hoo." There's no room to be angry, you know?' he said.
'I want to be the best dad for my daughters, and I can't let this affect the kind of dad I want to be.'
A GoFundMe has been launched to help support the family as they are forced to relocate from their three-story condominium into a single-story home while Stannard recovers.
'In an act that undoubtedly saved his daughter's life, he was able to move Sadie out of harm's way before the impact. Although he reacted quickly, he was unable to avoid being hit himself,' the fundraiser said.

'He will require a prosthetic limb and will have a long road of recovery and rehabilitation ahead of him.
'This news is heartbreaking. We know Jordan's strength and determination will carry him through, but the challenges facing him and his family are immense.'
It is unclear if the driver who struck Stannard has been charged. The Daily Mail contacted the Los Angeles Police Department for more information.
Badenoch blasts 'moaning' female Labour MPs over Burnham jobs 'quota'
Kemi Badenoch has told Labour women to earn a job in Andy Burnham's Cabinet instead of demanding they are handed jobs because of their gender.
The Tory leader lashed out today amid reports that female MPs are demanding the de-facto new prime minister introduce a 50:50 gender split 'quota' in his government.
Amid reports that former foreign secretary David Miliband is being lined up to return to the role, possibly with his brother Ed as Chancellor, one female minister also complained that Burnham could not have 'more Milibands than women' in the top posts.
But in a scathing article in the Times today Mrs Badenoch told them to 'stop moaning' and get chosen on merit instead of retreating into 'more of the failed identity politics that is holding back our country'.
'There are many, many reasons why you shouldn't have any Milibands in the cabinet,' she said.
'But complaining that the boys haven't given them the right jobs or that the boys are taking all the jobs, just shows that Labour's women still don't get it.'
The idea of quotas was also attacked by Baroness Jacqui Smith, Labour's Skills Minister.
Asked by Times Radio if Mr Burnham should reserve jobs for women, she said: 'No, I think what Andy Burnham should be doing is building the very best team around him to change this country.'
A letter written by the Women's Parliamentary Labour Party has called on Mr Burnham to ensure a 50:50 split between men and women in government jobs

But Mrs Badenoch told them to pipe down and get chosen on merit instead of retreating into 'more of the failed identity politics that is holding back our country'
A letter written by the Women's Parliamentary Labour Party and seen by the BBC has called on Mr Burnham to ensure a 50:50 split between men and women in government jobs after he succeeds Sir Keir Starmer.
'We are asking you to demonstrate this change from day one and address the toxicity and misogyny within our own party and government,' it said.
Labour has never had a female leader, while the Conservatives have had three, and Mrs Badenoch urged the government to follow its meritocratic example.
'If you run a meritocracy, then you do not have to worry about jobs for the boys,' she wrote.
'Every woman who is a Conservative MP, every woman who has ever won the leadership, has had to fight to get where she is.
'By contrast, Labour women are demanding guarantees from Burnham. But the truth is he doesn't have to give any guarantees.
'If none of Labour's women are prepared to get their hands dirty and challenge him for the leadership, their demands are toothless.'
'In fact, it's quite revealing that the women's parliamentary Labour Party has written to Burnham asking him to commit himself to at least 50 per cent female ministers.
'This has nothing to do with meritocracy. It is yet more of the failed identity politics that is holding back our country.'
