In today's modern baseball, can a reliever like Mason Miller win a Cy Young?

That's a good question.

I think part of it depends on how much he pitches, how many games he, he pitches in.

But the sheer dominance that we have seen by him, there was a number that we had today.

I think it was he's thrown 316 sliders this year so far.

25 of them have been put into play, and there've only been 10 hits, and they've all been singles.

No extra base hits against that slider.

So we, we have never seen that before.

So if you wanna look at elite when they are in the game, you don't get much more elite than that.

And so it would take a year, I think, like this for Mason Miller, a strikeout rate of over 60% on that slider, to make people say, "Yeah, he deserves the Cy Young."

But if there is a year, if, if it doesn't happen with Mason Miller and he keeps this up the whole year, it's not gonna happen.

Because this is exactly the kind of story that you would have to write for it to happen.

but Christopher Sanchez, Paul Skenes, you know, you know, some guys in the American League, Jacob deGrom.

You know, it's like you've got these other names that already have the built-in story and comeback stories with them, and reigning Cy Young.

So I, I don't know if it can happen.

But if it doesn't happen and Mason Miller does this for the rest of the year, it will never happen.

I think it's safe in saying that.

It's rare that everybody loves everything.

It's rare that everybody loves anything.

I love this.

Star-Spangled Sunday.

I saw the tweet go out the other day, I freaked for it.

This is an amazing idea.

Tell everybody what's going on on Sunday.

It solves the problem.

Everybody go, "Where, where's the game?"

Or, "How can I find the game?"

It's on Peacock.

It is on Peacock.

We got two games on NBC.

Every single game coming up on Sunday, July 5th, Star-Spangled Sunday, will be streamed on Peacock.

We got Mets and Braves to start the whole thing off on Sunday on NBC as well.

We end it, me and CC Sabathia will be doing the pregame show out in California for Padres and Dodgers.

Yeah, and so the cool thing is, and what we've tried to do here at NBC with our Sunday Leadoff package that we had, in '22 and '23, and now we have it once again and with our Sunday package, you guys know this.

We're trying to bring analysts from both sides.

You know, home team, away team, bring them together.

Spark some new conversations during the broadcast.

For all 15 games, we're gonna try to do that as well.

Many of the games on Peacock will have the home play-by-play announcer with the away color analyst.

And so they haven't necessarily worked together in the past, and so that'll be a new flavor and a new broadcast.

And so just trying to bring in different perspectives, 'cause I think the one thing that we realize is that baseball is really a local sport.

And these local broadcasters that you've grown up with in your life, I mean, it was George Callas and Al Kaline for the Detroit Tigers for me.

Working out in San Francisco, it was Krukow and Kuip.

I mean, those guys are beloved.

And so to be able to bring them into these national broadcasts and make it easy for the viewer.

On Sunday, turn on Peacock, flip around to some games.

You got all of them there.

We'll finish it off in LA.

And so yeah, I, I'm super pumped.

May you like

And selfishly, I hope this is a template for when Major League Baseball starts thinking of their media rights deals coming up in, in the future, because I think this is really cool.

Put all the games in one spot every once in a while and, one-stop shopping, if you will
