I think Sean's ability to understand where the game is going offensively and defensively is pretty unparalleled.
And, you know, there are coaches you talk to every summer, and they'll lay out to you where they think the sport is headed, and what their team needs to do in order to keep pace with that.
And you kind of nod along, and at the end of the day, none of it will come true.
You know, none, none of it will end up mattering.
None of it will be relevant.
You'll see none of it play out.
And Sean has a really uncanny ability to predict the future in that way, and very few guys can do it.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAnd I think that his evolution is always in line with where the sport is going, and it's often driving where the sport is going.
Obviously, this off season with all the tight end stuff, that's the most recent example.
But he has shaped the game over the last 10 years in a way that really nobody has.
And the other side of it that I would say, I think Sean has a better understanding of himself and his offenses than anybody else in the league.
What their- Mm-hmm, mm-hmm tendencies are, what the tendency breakers are, how can I make this look like that?
Everything, every bit of evolution is not about chasing where the league is, it's about taking the, his ideas and bringing them to the next stage of where they should be.
AdvertisementAdvertisementYes.
And so I think those two things, understanding the arcs of the NFL and understanding how to bring his stuff toward that while not relying on maybe what other people are doing, I don't think anybody does those two things quite as well as he is doing them right now.
I think of all people to maybe illustrate or kind of maybe just a microcosm of what Sean McVay does for his players, and I think the number one compliment I can give to any coach is their players play the best of their ability when they're under that coach.
you see it with offensive line coaches all the time, you see it with defensive coordinators, yada, yada.
AdvertisementAdvertisementColeman Shelton is the guy- that maybe best illustrate how good- Yeah of a coach Sean McVay is.
Yeah.
I know Sean McVay's not coaching the line, but he has a big influence on what they do.
And Coleman Shelton was good with the Rams, goes to the Bears, not so good, and then goes right back to LA, and he's solid again.
At the very least a starting center that you're fine with.
And I just think that's the thing, is he, and I'll get into maybe just the changes and the evolution and just the small changes he'll make with his offense, the big changes he'll make with the offense, the willingness to make those changes.
AdvertisementAdvertisementYou know how hard it is to have success and then just go, "Well, that was last year.
We, we got a new page.
We got, we gotta just tear out Okay, we can keep that small part of the page, but we gotta write a whole new page."
That's really hard to do.
You have to have so much confidence in yourself to be right, and I think McVay's done it three times off the, just kind of if you wanna just have broad swath evolutions, going from the tight- I think that's right formations, the 11 personnel, to the Stafford empty.
I mean, that was right when you and I started podcasting.
We were just like, "This is completely different.
AdvertisementAdvertisementHe's in empty every single play.
Whoa, whoa, whoa."
And then there was kind of, s- kind of like a mini Stafford, kind of like they're trying to figure it out, and then now we get the duo, and we get the kind of the new version, the 13 personnel, kind of pivot as well.

Badenoch blasts 'moaning' female Labour MPs over Burnham jobs 'quota'

Kemi Badenoch has told Labour women to earn a job in Andy Burnham's Cabinet instead of demanding they are handed jobs because of their gender.
The Tory leader lashed out today amid reports that female MPs are demanding the de-facto new prime minister introduce a 50:50 gender split 'quota' in his government.
Amid reports that former foreign secretary David Miliband is being lined up to return to the role, possibly with his brother Ed as Chancellor, one female minister also complained that Burnham could not have 'more Milibands than women' in the top posts.
But in a scathing article in the Times today Mrs Badenoch told them to 'stop moaning' and get chosen on merit instead of retreating into 'more of the failed identity politics that is holding back our country'.
'There are many, many reasons why you shouldn't have any Milibands in the cabinet,' she said.
'But complaining that the boys haven't given them the right jobs or that the boys are taking all the jobs, just shows that Labour's women still don't get it.'
The idea of quotas was also attacked by Baroness Jacqui Smith, Labour's Skills Minister.
Asked by Times Radio if Mr Burnham should reserve jobs for women, she said: 'No, I think what Andy Burnham should be doing is building the very best team around him to change this country.'
A letter written by the Women's Parliamentary Labour Party has called on Mr Burnham to ensure a 50:50 split between men and women in government jobs
Amid reports that former foreign secretary David Miliband (above, right, in 2010) is being lined up to return to the role, possibly with his brother Ed as Chancellor, one female minister complained that Burnham could not have 'more Milibands than women' in the top posts
But Mrs Badenoch told them to pipe down and get chosen on merit instead of retreating into 'more of the failed identity politics that is holding back our country'
A letter written by the Women's Parliamentary Labour Party and seen by the BBC has called on Mr Burnham to ensure a 50:50 split between men and women in government jobs after he succeeds Sir Keir Starmer.
'We are asking you to demonstrate this change from day one and address the toxicity and misogyny within our own party and government,' it said.
Labour has never had a female leader, while the Conservatives have had three, and Mrs Badenoch urged the government to follow its meritocratic example.
'If you run a meritocracy, then you do not have to worry about jobs for the boys,' she wrote.
'Every woman who is a Conservative MP, every woman who has ever won the leadership, has had to fight to get where she is.
'By contrast, Labour women are demanding guarantees from Burnham. But the truth is he doesn't have to give any guarantees.
'If none of Labour's women are prepared to get their hands dirty and challenge him for the leadership, their demands are toothless.'
'In fact, it's quite revealing that the women's parliamentary Labour Party has written to Burnham asking him to commit himself to at least 50 per cent female ministers.
'This has nothing to do with meritocracy. It is yet more of the failed identity politics that is holding back our country.'
