Venezuela earthquake death toll surpasses 1,700

National Assembly President Jorge Rodríguez announced in a televised speech that as a result of the two powerful earthquakes that struck Venezuela last week, the death toll has now risen to 1,719 deaths.

During his Monday speech, in addition to raising the death toll, Rodríguez revealed that the number of injured has risen to 5,034 and that 15,866 individuals are now homeless after losing their homes.  

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, there’s a 44% chance that the death toll could rise to over 10,000 individuals.
