It only took nearly five hours, but the Sixers made their first free-agency signing.
Philadelphia intends to ink Dean Wade to a four-year, $39 million contract, Shams Charania of ESPN reported on Tuesday night. Several teams with playoff aspirations also pursued the 29-year-old. His exact contract details have yet to be revealed, but Jake Fischer of The Stein Line stated that Wade has a partial guarantee for the fourth year of his deal.
Wade has been a lifelong Cleveland Cavalier, having averaged 5.8 points on 43.9% shooting from the field, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game. He developed into a 3-and-D forward whose point-of-attack defense and shooting will complement Philadelphia's core four of Tyrese Maxey, Joel Embiid, Paul George, and VJ Edgecombe.
The Sixers signed Wade using a portion of the non-taxpayer mid-level exception, which has hard-capped them at the first tax apron. Philadelphia has around $6 million of the NTP-MLE remaining and the $5.5 million bi-annual exception at its disposal.

Angel Mom Torches Dems For Protecting Illegals: 'There's No 'But' When Your Child Is In A Coffin'
USAngel Mom Of Sheridan Gormon Torches Dems For Protecting Illegals With Sanctuary Policies

Lucy Spence Contributor July 01, 2026 2:34 PM ET July 01, 2026 2:34 PM ET Lucy Spence Contributor Font Size:An angel mom torched Democrat members of Congress on Tuesday by arguing that Democrat sanctuary policies prioritized illegal immigrants over her daughter’s life.
Jessica Gormon, the mother of murdered 18-year-old Sheridan Gormon, tearfully condemned the sanctuary policies imposed by Democrat politicians during a House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement hearing. The event examined sanctuary policies in Illinois and California that have put “the interests of criminal aliens ahead of the interests of Americans.” Prosecutors charged Jose Medina-Medina with the murder of 18-year-old Sheridan Gorman, CBS News reported. The Homeland Security Department (DHS) said Medina-Medina is a Venezuelan illegal immigrant who had previously been arrested for shoplifting and released in Chicago, Illinois.
Gorman recalled the night her daughter was killed. “The man accused of murdering my daughter […] is an illegal immigrant from Venezuela who should not have even been in this country,” she said. “And even after committing a crime and having an outstanding warrant, he was left on the streets of Chicago to murder my innocent American child.” (RELATED: Markwayne Mullin Tells Sanctuary Cities What They Might Lose If They Refuse To Cooperate With DHS)
“Failed border policies and sanctuary city laws and twisted leaders refused to cooperate with ICE,” Gormon said. “They sent her to her grave.”
“[This story is about] a government and politicians that forgot their first priority,” Gormon added. “And the question before this committee is painfully simple: When did protecting our American citizens stop being your first priority? And even more important: Why did protecting our American citizens stop being your first priority?”
“I want an explanation, and I need one, and I deserve one,” the mother said. “In what world did the girl who saw everyone become invisible to the people in power responsible for protecting her? This cannot be explained away and it cannot be buried beneath a list of unrelated issues that you all paraded before us,” Gormon told the lawmakers.
“Explain why sanctuary policies matter more than my Sheridan’s life. Explain why cooperation with ICE was too much to ask for, but asking our American parents to bury our children is somehow acceptable,” Gormon said. “I don’t understand why it’s only the Republican side that cares about our American children.”
“I know that you’re a mother, I know that you’re a father — I deeply value that — but basically what you just did, what you said was, ‘I’m so sorry for your loss. […] I feel your pain.'”
“You don’t!” Gormon fired back. “You don’t feel my pain, because the next words out of your mouth were, ‘But.'”
“There’s no ‘but’ when your child is in a coffin,” Gormon said. “There’s no ‘but.'”
The angel mother challenged the members of Congress to “sit and hold my hand and look me in the eye and explain to me why illegal immigrants are more important than my daughter.”
“Explain why sanctuary policies matter more than my Sheridan’s life,” Gormon demanded.
Democrat Maryland Rep. Jamie Raskin and Democrat Washington Rep. Priya Jayapal attended the hearing, according to footage. Committee chairman Republican California Rep. Tom McClintock, Republican Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan, and Republican New York Rep. Mike Lawler were also present.
Reps. Lawler and Raskin got into a heated shouting match at the beginning of the hearing as the New York Congressman tried to introduce Jennifer Gorman to the committee.
U.S. Border Patrol took Medina-Medina into custody at the border and released him into the interior in May 2023 during former President Joe Biden’s administration, according to DHS. He was later freed in June that year after allegedly shoplifiting in Chicago. (RELATED: Supreme Court Rules Illegals Outside The US Have Not Arrived In The US)
Sanctuary cities limit their cooperation with federal immigration authorities, often preventing local or state law enforcement from pressing for individuals’ immigration status or assisting federal officers in enforcing civil violations of federal immigration law, according to a Library of Congress overview. Chicago is led by Democrat Mayor Brandon Johnson, and is listed as a sanctuary city by the Department of Justice (DOJ). Ten of the 12 listed by the DOJ are led by Democrat politicians, as is Washington, D.C.
Fan loudly expresses unbridled enthusiasm for Mexico's World Cup goal ... at Dodgers-A's game

- During the Dodgers-A’s game in Sacramento, a fan in a Mexico jersey erupted in a thunderous “GOOOAL!” behind home plate.
- His outburst came after El Tri scored during a 2-0 World Cup knockout victory against Ecuador at Mexico City’s Azteca Stadium, more than 2,000 miles away from Sutter Park Field.
- On the field, Justin Wrobleski struck out 11 over seven innings in a 9-3 Dodgers win, giving the left-hander his 10th victory and manager Dave Roberts his 1,000th.
A fan sitting behind home plate at the Dodgers-Athletics game Tuesday night really had his head in the game — but not the game he was attending.
In fact, his mind was on a completely different sport, at least during one particular moment in the bottom of the third inning.
The Dodgers were up 5-1 with one out as left-hander Justin Wrobleski was set to throw a 2-and-2 pitch to Athletics center fielder Henry Bolte. Without warning, a distinct and very loud sound started booming through Sutter Health Park.
“GOAL! GOOAL! GOOOAL! GOOOOAL! GOOOOOOOOOAL!”
The delighted screams were coming from a man wearing a Mexico soccer jersey in the first row. Apparently El Tri had just scored during its eventual 2-0 victory over Ecuador in a World Cup knockout game that was happening at the same time in Mexico City at Azteca Stadium.

Mexico had not won in a World Cup knockout round since 1986, a fact that perhaps contributed to the fan’s over-the-top reaction to one of the goals. He stood up from his premium seat at the baseball stadium, held his fists above his head, leaned back and vocalized his approval of what had occurred at a completely different sporting event more than 2,000 miles away.
Seriously, the dude’s shrieks could be heard echoing in the A’s dugout on the NBC Sports California broadcast of the game. The fans around him appeared to be largely unfazed, with some seeming to share in the man’s enthusiasm (although slightly less energetic).
The pitcher and batter didn’t acknowledge the outburst, although Wrobleski’s pitch ended up in the dirt for a full count. The Dodgers starter recovered well, striking out Bolte with a 96-mph fastball on the next pitch to end the inning.
Wrobleski had a career-high 11 strikeouts in seven innings as the Dodgers cruised to a 9-3 victory. It was the 10th win of the season for Wrobleski and 1,000th in the career of manager Dave Roberts.

Ohio: 116 School Districts Now Allow Armed Employees
Ohio: 116 School Districts Now Allow Armed Employees

Four years after Gov. Mike DeWine (R) signed legislation allowing school boards to choose to allow teachers and other employees to be armed, 116 school districts have chosen to allow armed employees for classroom defense.
WOWO reported that the figure of “116 school districts” is derived from state data “as of June 17.”
The Ohio Capital Journal noted that the 116 districts include “more than 70 Ohio school districts and 15 Christian schools…[with] staff members who are authorized to carry weapons on school grounds.”
Ohio Federation of Teachers President Melissa Cropper criticized the training requirements for the growing number of armed school employees, saying, “It’s not a sufficient amount of training. We’re talking about highly intense situations that require a lot of not only tactical training on how to use weapons, but how to deal with making split-second decisions.”
She did not provide an instance where an armed teacher or employee has harmed someone since the law was signed by DeWine.
Antwerp district superintendent Marty Miller explained that his district chose to arm teachers and employees because they are in a rural setting with a longer police response time.
He said, “It’s just letting the public know that your children are protected.”
