The Philadelphia 76ers are losing one of their key free agents.

Quentin Grimes has agreed to a four-year, $60 million contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, per ESPN's Shams Charania.

"Free agent guard Quentin Grimes has agreed to a four-year, $60 million to join the Los Angeles Lakers, with a player option, sources tell ESPN," Charania posted to X. "Lakers president Rob Pelinka wrapped up negotiations with Grimes' CAA Sports agents Austin Brown and Steven Heumann to add the high-octane scorer."

This was simply more money than the 76ers were capable of, and likely comfortable with, offering Grimes after signing forward Dean Wade and center Ariel Hukporti.

Wade and Hukporti are frontcourt additions, meaning Philadelphia is still in need of a fourth rotational guard. As it stands, Tyrese Maxey, V.J. Edgecombe, and Labaron Philon Jr. are the only backcourt players under contract. While these three guards are each very talented in their own right, coach Nick Nurse cannot afford to play Maxey and Edgecombe as much as he did last season.

Another option for the 76ers went off the board almost immediately after Grimes was signed to the Lakers, as Los Angeles is also bringing in eight-year NBA veteran Collin Sexton on a two-year, $19 million deal, per Charania.
