The NFL is declining to hold a supplemental draft in 2026, leaving the 2027 draft as Brendan Souersby's only way to enter the league per Adam Schefter.
The league sent a, sending a letter to Souersby and all 32 teams to inform them of the decision.
Now, the letter that they sent is long.
I will not bore you all with every single detail, but I will try and pa- paraphrase it as much as possible to say that the NFL made it clear that while the application was made to be part of the supplemental draft, there was no explanation as to why he had to actually be in that supplemental draft, there was no explanation of what he did, and there was no explanation of how he would make it right.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAlso, they didn't feel that there was time to do their own thorough investigation on any of it.
So as a result, the league, which is not mandated to have the supplemental draft, has decided, Caroline, not to have it, and it's also important to make this clear.
That means that Souersby cannot, in any way, shape, or form, enter the NFL this year.
He can't be a free agent signing post-draft.
He's gotta wait until the draft next season.
So, the CBA allows the league to decide whether it's gonna hold a supplemental draft.
They have decided they won't.
What do you think?
This also is not unprecedented.
The NFL has not held a supplemental draft for the last two years.
The NFL had zero plans to be holding a supplemental draft this year.
But until Brendan Souersby, you know, made his request to enter the supplemental draft, that was the first time that the NFL really, they had a consideration to even do it.
So I am not surprised in the slightest that the NFL made this decision, and I don't think anyone really should be either.
The NFL does not play around.
The NFL doesn't play around when it comes to legal battles.
The NFL doesn't play around when it comes to gambling.
There are a lot of issues that I have with the NFL, that they don't, you know, have a certain sense of importance when it comes to other, you know, legal battles that players might be in, getting DUIs, you know, domestic abuse and domestic violence disputes, whatever else it might be.
AdvertisementAdvertisementBut the NFL has clearly, you know, had one thing that they hold of more importance than anything else.
Whether you agree with it or not doesn't matter.
They do not play around when it comes to gambling, especially when it comes to gambling on your own sport and it comes to gambling on your own teams.
The NFL is not going to be, you know, held by a player who clearly is entering the, the NFL supplemental draft simply just to avoid NCAA sanctions.
It is clear, and it is obvious that is what Brendan Souersby did.
That's actually what the NFL, said in their, their response, in their letter to Brendan Souersby was, "You issued this three days before the deadline after it came out that you probably weren't going to be able to play in NCAA football anyway.
So we are not gonna be a second option here."
So, this doesn't surprise me in the slightest, and honestly, good for the NFL for putting their foot down

Badenoch blasts 'moaning' female Labour MPs over Burnham jobs 'quota'

Kemi Badenoch has told Labour women to earn a job in Andy Burnham's Cabinet instead of demanding they are handed jobs because of their gender.
The Tory leader lashed out today amid reports that female MPs are demanding the de-facto new prime minister introduce a 50:50 gender split 'quota' in his government.
Amid reports that former foreign secretary David Miliband is being lined up to return to the role, possibly with his brother Ed as Chancellor, one female minister also complained that Burnham could not have 'more Milibands than women' in the top posts.
But in a scathing article in the Times today Mrs Badenoch told them to 'stop moaning' and get chosen on merit instead of retreating into 'more of the failed identity politics that is holding back our country'.
'There are many, many reasons why you shouldn't have any Milibands in the cabinet,' she said.
'But complaining that the boys haven't given them the right jobs or that the boys are taking all the jobs, just shows that Labour's women still don't get it.'
The idea of quotas was also attacked by Baroness Jacqui Smith, Labour's Skills Minister.
Asked by Times Radio if Mr Burnham should reserve jobs for women, she said: 'No, I think what Andy Burnham should be doing is building the very best team around him to change this country.'
A letter written by the Women's Parliamentary Labour Party has called on Mr Burnham to ensure a 50:50 split between men and women in government jobs
Amid reports that former foreign secretary David Miliband (above, right, in 2010) is being lined up to return to the role, possibly with his brother Ed as Chancellor, one female minister complained that Burnham could not have 'more Milibands than women' in the top posts
But Mrs Badenoch told them to pipe down and get chosen on merit instead of retreating into 'more of the failed identity politics that is holding back our country'
A letter written by the Women's Parliamentary Labour Party and seen by the BBC has called on Mr Burnham to ensure a 50:50 split between men and women in government jobs after he succeeds Sir Keir Starmer.
'We are asking you to demonstrate this change from day one and address the toxicity and misogyny within our own party and government,' it said.
Labour has never had a female leader, while the Conservatives have had three, and Mrs Badenoch urged the government to follow its meritocratic example.
'If you run a meritocracy, then you do not have to worry about jobs for the boys,' she wrote.
'Every woman who is a Conservative MP, every woman who has ever won the leadership, has had to fight to get where she is.
'By contrast, Labour women are demanding guarantees from Burnham. But the truth is he doesn't have to give any guarantees.
'If none of Labour's women are prepared to get their hands dirty and challenge him for the leadership, their demands are toothless.'
'In fact, it's quite revealing that the women's parliamentary Labour Party has written to Burnham asking him to commit himself to at least 50 per cent female ministers.
'This has nothing to do with meritocracy. It is yet more of the failed identity politics that is holding back our country.'
