This week's big number, Dan, is 2.9.
That is the number of All-NBA awards that we can expect for Giannis Antetokounmpo going forward- Huh with the Miami Heat.
2.9.
You might be asking yourself, "Well, how did you get to that number?"
Well, I looked up all of the MVPs, modern-day MVPs, bigs since 1990.
So we're talking Hakeem Olajuwon, Kevin Garnett, Tim Duncan, Shaq, David Robinson.
There's eight pl- eight bigs since 1990, that have won an MVP award, and I was curious to see, of those eight guys, how many All-NBA awards did they earn after e- their age 31 season?
Because that's what- we're talking about here with Giannis, is how much does he have left or how much the Heat can expect after they traded four players and a bunch of picks, acqui- you know, in that acquisition.
AdvertisementAdvertisementIn order to get Giannis Antetokounmpo, they have to bet that this guy is gonna play at this level for a long time, and that even though he is on the back nine of his NBA career, I think you can expect three All-NBA seasons, potentially an MVP season, but three All-NBA seasons.
And tho- that group of, of, you know, MVP caliber bigs, they won 32 All-Stars among the eight of them after the age- of 31.
So Dan, that, we're talking four All-Star appearances and about three All-NBA appearances for Giannis Antetokounmpo is the baseline.
That is the expectation.
Charles Barkley had zero All-NBA sorry.
One All-NBA appearance and two All-Star appearances.
AdvertisementAdvertisementKG, zero All-NBA appearances after the age of 31, after his age 31 season, and that's at Basketball Reference.
Four All-Stars.
Five All-Stars for Dirk.
Six All-Stars for Karl Malone.
Five All-Stars for Tim Duncan, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.
What I'm trying to say is, Dan, that there is a lot of concern about Giannis Antetokounmpo's body holding up, as he ages into his mid-30s, but historically, if you're this good, enough to be an MVP, as a big man in the NBA, if you're in that top echelon, you still, in your mid-30s, are gonna have a lot of good years left.
And so for the Miami Heat going all in Well, I shouldn't say all in, because they kept Bam Adebayo on the team.
AdvertisementAdvertisementSure.
they went all, they, they put in a lot of chips in to get Giannis Antetokounmpo, and I know there's some concern from people that saying Giannis's body's not gonna hold up.
And while it's certainly possible it doesn't, we have seen this from, in, in NBA history that after the age of 31, 32, things go downhill.
But not when you're this good and this talented like Giannis Antetokounmpo.
so yeah, 23 All-NBA appearances between those eight, y- you know, former MVP modern-day bigs, and 32 All-Star appearances among the, the eight of them after, this point in their career

Badenoch blasts 'moaning' female Labour MPs over Burnham jobs 'quota'

Kemi Badenoch has told Labour women to earn a job in Andy Burnham's Cabinet instead of demanding they are handed jobs because of their gender.
The Tory leader lashed out today amid reports that female MPs are demanding the de-facto new prime minister introduce a 50:50 gender split 'quota' in his government.
Amid reports that former foreign secretary David Miliband is being lined up to return to the role, possibly with his brother Ed as Chancellor, one female minister also complained that Burnham could not have 'more Milibands than women' in the top posts.
But in a scathing article in the Times today Mrs Badenoch told them to 'stop moaning' and get chosen on merit instead of retreating into 'more of the failed identity politics that is holding back our country'.
'There are many, many reasons why you shouldn't have any Milibands in the cabinet,' she said.
'But complaining that the boys haven't given them the right jobs or that the boys are taking all the jobs, just shows that Labour's women still don't get it.'
The idea of quotas was also attacked by Baroness Jacqui Smith, Labour's Skills Minister.
Asked by Times Radio if Mr Burnham should reserve jobs for women, she said: 'No, I think what Andy Burnham should be doing is building the very best team around him to change this country.'
A letter written by the Women's Parliamentary Labour Party has called on Mr Burnham to ensure a 50:50 split between men and women in government jobs
Amid reports that former foreign secretary David Miliband (above, right, in 2010) is being lined up to return to the role, possibly with his brother Ed as Chancellor, one female minister complained that Burnham could not have 'more Milibands than women' in the top posts
But Mrs Badenoch told them to pipe down and get chosen on merit instead of retreating into 'more of the failed identity politics that is holding back our country'
A letter written by the Women's Parliamentary Labour Party and seen by the BBC has called on Mr Burnham to ensure a 50:50 split between men and women in government jobs after he succeeds Sir Keir Starmer.
'We are asking you to demonstrate this change from day one and address the toxicity and misogyny within our own party and government,' it said.
Labour has never had a female leader, while the Conservatives have had three, and Mrs Badenoch urged the government to follow its meritocratic example.
'If you run a meritocracy, then you do not have to worry about jobs for the boys,' she wrote.
'Every woman who is a Conservative MP, every woman who has ever won the leadership, has had to fight to get where she is.
'By contrast, Labour women are demanding guarantees from Burnham. But the truth is he doesn't have to give any guarantees.
'If none of Labour's women are prepared to get their hands dirty and challenge him for the leadership, their demands are toothless.'
'In fact, it's quite revealing that the women's parliamentary Labour Party has written to Burnham asking him to commit himself to at least 50 per cent female ministers.
'This has nothing to do with meritocracy. It is yet more of the failed identity politics that is holding back our country.'
