Oh, but with Minter, it's just everything we're talking about with Fangio, with McDonald, it's that.
It's hyper-specific game plans from the same shell.
It's understanding personnel.
It's getting away with some, "All right, we don't have the best corners," but actually no, those corners seem pretty good because they're so coach- they're coached so well.
And I was just, what stood out to me so much was in the, the, the Chargers schemes the last couple years, was that how many bodies are around the ball.
And, and, and just anytime the ball gets completed underneath, there's three defenders right around it.
AdvertisementAdvertisementThey were susceptible, the one weakness with the Chargers defense, and it, it's kinda nice if you, if you're into quarterback props, was he, they allowed a lot of scrambles.
And it was because their guys were so good in coverage and going, "Okay, look at the route, look at the route combination, we're passing this up.
Oh, the quarterback's running.
We gotta rally, we gotta rally to the quarterback."
That, it was kind of the, the double-edged sword of being so hyper-specific and so hyper game plan, but he's earned my respect so much.
I mean, I, I was able to, just 'cause knowing his background, but Michigan was so relevant when he was calling plays for them, too.
So I kinda got, like, an early tip on Minter.
And even then with Michigan, watching that college football playoff on their, on when they won the championship, I mean, just anything Washington ran, anybody, anybody ran, they were just teeing off on all that.
I know that's college, but then continued to the NFL where, yeah, they, they would kinda lose what Charles McDonald would say the blue chip battle sometimes, but he maximized what the talent that they did have.
And, and he's earned a lot of respect.
I'm very excited to see what he does in Baltimore.
I love the Doyle hi- hire.
I love the offensive line coach hire.
AdvertisementAdvertisementSo I know that's nothing to do with this, but as a play caller and a play designer and a, a game plan schemer, he's, he's up there for me and that's why I'm gonna tab him.
Even if This is tough actually, 'cause Flores was pretty hard to leave off, but I really liked, I, I really like what I've seen from Minter the last two years.
I'm excited to see him with the Ravens personnel.
I think the point about maximizing talent is, it does a lot of lifting for me here.
Like, the fact that- That's what's up you look at it and they're down near the bottom of the league in defensive spending over the last couple years, and they're still a top 10 defense.
AdvertisementAdvertisementIt, it's the ability to create that kind of unit without those field tilting players.
You know, like- Yeah Kilmac is good.
I, I think Tooley had such a nice season last year, and I think- Yep he's a really fun player to watch.
Tyree Tartt justifiably got paid a lot of money because- Yep of what he was doing for them.
Dan Henley's very exciting.
And I like the, they have flexibility at corner, even if they don't have star power.
Like, there's a lot of things to like about how they've built it, but they do not have those field tilting players defensively.

And I think on defense it's almost more important to have them than it is b- on offense.

And to the fact- Have to give the chip up to this guy.
Exa- exactly.
Can't throw it to this guy.
Again, like how are you tilting things?
Yes, yep, yep.
Like, how are you changing the math?
And like, they just don't have that many math changing guys defensively, even if I like a lot of the players that they have.

Mm-hmm.
And to be able to build a top 10 defense out of that kind of group is just so impressive.
