Alyssa Thomas Fires Back at WNBA After Receiving Death Threats Over Foul on Caitlin Clark

Phoenix MercuryIndiana FeverAlyssa Thomas made her first comments on her WNBA suspension for “recklessly making contact” with Caitlin Clark by pressing her fist on Clark’s throat during a game between the Mercury and Fever.
The Phoenix star forward was deemed to have committed a “non-basketball act” when she got tangled up with Clark in the second quarter of the Mercury’s win last week. Clark fell to the ground after running into some contact with a defender, and while Clark was down, Thomas, who was trying to pry the ball away, pressed her fist into the Fever guard’s throat. No foul was called in the moment, but the WNBA issued a retroactive Flagrant 2 foul to Thomas which triggered an automatic one-game suspension.
Thomas addressed her suspension for the first time Tuesday in which she fired back at the “narratives” being painted of her and the Mercury team. She added that she and her team have been the subject of racial slurs and death threats in the wake of the controversial incident.
“There’s a difference between trolling [and hatred], and the hatred that we’re experiencing over a play that honestly was a complete accident, no one even knew it happened. It’s just unfortunate. The league has to do better in this instance,” Thomas told reporters.
Thomas specifically called out WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert for staying silent over the online scrutiny she and the Mercury has since received.
“It’s not even about the suspension, if that’s what they felt was necessary in that moment then so be it,” Thomas continued. “I think the biggest thing is, it’s just about our safety. We’re so concerned with safety on the court, but time and time again we’re having people threatening our lives. Leaking addresses out there, putting crazy pictures that have nothing to do with basketball. At some point the league has to take a stand on it. ... Time and time again, players are going through this, and the league remains silent. I’m sick and tired of it. It’s time for them to step up and have our backs in these instances.”
Alyssa Thomas said she received death threats after last week’s incident & called for the WNBA to take a stand.

Thomas noted that Engelbert hadn’t reached out to the team at all regarding the suspension, and that she didn’t know she was being suspended until 10 minutes before it was all over social media.
A brief history of the WNBA’s officiating controversies surrounding Caitlin Clark
The WNBA has come under fire recently for its poor officiating, an inflammatory issue that continues to linger despite the league’s growing popularity and revenue. Clark was on the receiving end of back-to-back cheap shots during the Fever-Mercury game, and outrage over the no-calls has spiraled to the extent of putting players’ lives in danger, as Thomas stated.
This is hardly the first time that there’s been a disproportionate response to an on-court play involving Clark. In June 2025, Clark was in the center of a scrum of Sun players including Jacy Sheldon, who gave the Fever star a shove, and Marina Mabrey, who knocked Clark to the floor. Sheldon later got aggressively fouled by Sophie Cunningham, who received a Flagrant 2 and a separate fine for her retaliatory act, though she didn’t appear to receive as much online hate as Thomas did. In fact, she was praised for being Clark’s enforcer.
A year prior in Clark’s rookie campaign, the Fever guard was poked in the eye by then-Sun guard DiJonai Carrington during a playoff game. Clark and former college rival Angel Reese have also had their share of run-ins over the last three seasons, and their feisty matchups have more often than not served as fodder for toxic discourse on social media.
When probed about the rippling effects of the Clark-Reese rivalry back in 2024, WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert put her own spin on it and called it an asset for the ongoing growth of the league.
“It’s a little of that [Larry] Bird-Magic [Johnson] moment if you recall from 1979, when those two rookies came in from a big college rivalry, one white, one black,” Engelbert said. “And so we have that moment with these two. But the one thing I know about sports, you need rivalry. That’s what makes people watch. They want to watch games of consequence between rivals. They don’t want everybody being nice to one another.”
As the women’s game continues to expand, one thing must remain certain and unnegotiable: The promised safety of its players. Without that, the game is gone. As Thomas put it in her own blunt but honest terms, Engelbert and the league heads must do better when it comes to protecting players and fostering a safer, more inclusive environment so that the W can not only survive but thrive in the future.

Vance argues there is a ‘big silver lining’ in Supreme Court’s ‘preposterous ruling’ in birthright citizenship case

Add The New York Post on GoogleVice President JD Vance argued Tuesday that there is a “big silver lining” in the divided Supreme Court ruling striking down President Trump’s executive order outlawing birthright citizenship for children of illegal immigrants and tourists.
“I know a lot of conservatives, Laura, certainly the people that I’m talking to, that you’re talking to, are extremely disappointed in this, but I do actually think there’s a really big silver lining here, and that’s the simple fact that a lot of legal experts expected this case to go the wrong direction by seven to two, or even eight to one,” Vance said in an interview with Fox News host Laura Ingraham.
“The fact that this case was a 5-to-4 decision effectively means that the concept of birthright citizenship, which is an absurdity to the 14th Amendment, that concept is hanging by a thread,” the vice president argued during his appearance on “The Ingraham Angle.”

Chief Justice John Roberts and fellow conservative Amy Coney Barrett were joined in the majority by liberal Justices Ketanji Brown Jackson, Elena Kagan, and Sonia Sotomayor. The majority ruled that Trump’s order violated the 14th Amendment’s birthright citizenship guarantee.

A sixth justice, Brett Kavanaugh, found that the order did not violate the 14th Amendment, but did violate federal law from the 1940s and 1950s.
“What I take from [the ruling] is, yes, we’ve got to fix the immigration system even more, we have to be even more aware of who’s coming into our country to make sure that they’re not benefiting from this atrocious Supreme Court ruling,” Vance said, adding, “but it also means that we have to keep fighting … because we actually have an opportunity to reverse this decision.”
The vice president further argued that the high court’s “major, major mistake” might invite pregnant foreign nationals “to come here quite literally on a vacation, give birth, and then all of a sudden the child and their family have the full benefits of American citizenship.”
“It’s just a preposterous ruling, and the absurdity of that outcome suggests why the Supreme Court should have went the other way.”

Blue Jays Announce Troubling Vladimir Guerrero Jr. News After Exiting Starting Lineup
Story by
Gavin GroeTue, June 30, 2026 at 9:35 PM UTC·2 min readToronto Blue Jaysfirst basemanVladimir Guerrero Jr. is in the middle of a career-worst season. The 27-year-old superstar has posted a .268 batting average, .347 on-base percentage, .695 OPS, four home runs and 34 RBIs across 81 games.
The Blue Jays have had a disappointing season after last year's dream run to the World Series, and it is hard to point the blame at anyone more than Guerrero.
AdvertisementAdvertisementHe is the face of the franchise and only in year one of his massive 14-year, $500 million contract. He is a five-time All-Star, two-time Silver Slugger and Gold Glove award winner, so the expectations are naturally high, and he has fallen well short of them this year.
Guerrero has not been at full strength this season, which may be contributing to his struggles. He has continued to deal with back tightness throughout June, missing multiple games due to the injury. However, he had been trying to push through it, and it had not flared up in over a week.
AdvertisementAdvertisementUnfortunately, it flared up again before Tuesday's game against the New York Mets. Guerrero was originally included in the starting lineup but was scratched hours before game time.
Luis Urias entered the lineup in his place, stepping in defensively at second base, with Ernie Clement shifting to the hot corner and rookie Sean Keys taking over the vacant spot at first base.
Moments later, the Blue Jays confirmed the reason for his removal. "UPDATE: 1B Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was removed from tonight's starting lineup with back tightness," the team wrote on X.
AdvertisementAdvertisementManager John Schneider will likely provide further updates on Guerrero's condition after the game.
It is still unclear whether this is a day-to-day situation or, given that this is the third time the back has flared up this month, whether the Blue Jays may be forced to place him on the 10-day injured list.

Texas A&M Battling Texas for SEC Pitcher in Transfer Portal
Texas A&M Battling Texas for SEC Pitcher in Transfer Portal
How can Texas A&M secure the commitment of RHP Marcos Paz?Trey Bohne|
After an improved sophomore season under head coach Michael Earley, Texas A&M is likely to lose key contributors to the MLB Draft, including weekend arms like Weston Moss and Shane Sdao.
In 2026, the Aggies struggled on the mound, allowing a Southeastern Conference-high 90 home runs, while posting a 5.24 team ERA. Despite one of the nation’s most explosive batting lineups, Earley had no choice but to revamp his coaching staff ahead of the 2027 season.
Earley's latest hire, Barry Enright, arrives in College Station with extensive MLB experience that has quickly transformed A&M into a premier destination for veteran arms. As the Aggies look to rebuild their rotation, Enright’s resume may already be paying off in the transfer portal.
Texas A&M in Mix for LSU Transfer Marcos Paz

After a standalone season at LSU, right-handed pitcher Marcos Paz has generated high-level interest from prestigious SEC programs such as Texas, A&M and Georgia, per reports from Matt Moscona of LouisianaSports.net.
Out of Hebron High School in Carrollton, Texas, Paz ranked No. 3 in Texas and No. 22 in the nation according to Perfect Game Best High School RHPs.
Before his freshman season at LSU, Paz received high praise, ranking No. 33 among Perfect Game’s 2026 Top 100 College Freshmen and No. 7 according to Prep Baseball Report.
Despite a 1-4 record in 2026, Paz recorded 40 strikeouts and allowed only 5 home runs over 29.1 innings, offering developmental upside with four years of eligibility remaining.
The Carrollton native faced A&M on April 18, securing three strikeouts over the course of two innings. Though the Tigers fell 7-2, Paz brought down three straight Aggies in the eighth inning, allowing only a single hit by Jake Duer in the ninth.
With a commitment, Paz has the opportunity to represent the next generation of A&M pitchers in the MLB — but he’s not locked down yet.
Luckily for A&M, Nolan Cain is back in Aggieland.
Cain previously spent three seasons with A&M from 2022-2024, lifting the Aggies to a pair of College World Series appearances, including the program’s first College World Series Finals appearance in 2024.
Heading into 2027, Cain joins Enright and Earley as A&M's associate head coach and recruiting coordinator, forming one of the nation's strongest combinations of recruiting and professional experience in College Station. Though Paz’ commitment remains to be seen, the Aggies have positioned themselves as a serious contender for one of the SEC's most promising young arms.
